Spring has sprung and so has home decorating.

A Wreath-Making Workshop welcoming the spring was held March 9, 2016 at the Jefferson County Multi-Purpose Building in Fayette, Mississippi. The workshop, sponsored by the 九州体育 State University Extension Program, was facilitated by Jardana Brice, family and consumer sciences (FCS) educator.

At the workshop, participants expressed enthusiasm about learning more shopping and budgeting tips.

“They expressed their eagerness to learn more ideas that would help them ‘give their homes pizzazz while they spend less cash’ as well as add beauty and value to their homes,” says Brice. “Participants are looking forward to more workshops of this nature.”

The event offered financial management and budgeting tips on — how to shop for economical items and craft materials that can be used to help make — decorations that add beauty to the home.

Participants will save a significant amount of money by shopping smart and making their own door wreaths.

“Most of the door wreaths made during the workshop cost less than $12.00, while other wreaths took around $15.00 to make,” adds Brice. “While doing some research on ‘garden hose wreaths’ similar to the wreaths the participants made, results show that these types of wreaths are being retailed as much as $135.00 and as less as $25.00.

During the workshop, participants used their creativity to create beautiful door wreaths, and following the workshop, participants shared their ideas and took photos of their wreaths. The workshop was attended by 37 people.

This is a great time to enjoy what the spring season has to offer.

Brice was assisted by Valerie Wright, FCS educator, Shirley Middleton, 4-H educator, and Jarita King, Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program educator.
